About Jake Byrne and Type Won

Jake Byrne grew up in Rogers, Arkansas and now lives in Dallas, Texas. A type 1 diabetic since the age of fourteen, he has since been proactive combating the disease and mentoring diabetic youth. He played football for the University of Wisconsin as a tight end, and went on to compete in the NFL. Originally an undrafted free agent who signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2012, he has also been a Houston Texan, Kansas City Chief, and San Diego Charger. Jake is the author of First and Goal: What football taught me about never giving up. Soon to be released by Harvest House Publishers. He is beginning a foundation, Type Won, to help educate and encourage others (especially diabetic youth) to be active and achieve goals regardless of whatever life throws at them.

My son was diagnosed with Type 1 in March of,2014 at age 14. We live near Dallas. He is very involved in sports and is encouraged by other Type 1 athlete’s stories like yours. His commitment to Christ has truly given him the strength to keep going and set goals. I wanted to ask if you ever speak to youth publicly or one on one? I have tried to reach out to other type 1 athletes but have not had success. I’m reading your book now and I’m loving it. Thank you for having the desire to help teens in dealing with such a life-changing disease.
I wish I could take this burden from my son but I know, as does he, that this is part of God’s plan for his life.
    Thank you!
